Introduction to GIS

Master the Science of "Where": Transforming Spatial Data into Actionable Intelligence.

📍 University Ferhat Abbas Sétif 1

Course Overview

Geographical Information Systems (GIS) is the science of "where." This course moves beyond simple map-making to explore the underlying digital architecture of spatial data. Students will learn how to abstract the complex real world into manageable digital formats (Vector and Raster), how to anchor those formats to the Earth's surface via Georeferencing, and how to use advanced mathematics to support critical decision-making in urban planning, environmental science, and logistics.

What You Will Learn

âś… Synthesize the transition from real-world complexity to digital geographic representation.

âś… Master the mathematical and geometric foundations of georeferencing and projections.

âś… Analyze spatial patterns using statistical modeling (Moran Index) and sampling.

âś… Evaluate predictive interpolation techniques (Kriging, IDW) for continuous surfaces.

âś… Design complex spatial analysis workflows to solve territorial challenges.
